Bu uygulama YÖK'ün 01.01.2002 tarihinden geçerli olmak üzere yürülüğe aldığı Yükseköğretim Kurumları Bilimsel Araştırma Projeleri Hakkında Yönetmelik uyarınca gerçekleştirilmektedir. Üniversitemizin tüm öğretim elemanları BAP Komisyonuna başvurarak bilimsel araştırmaları için kaynak alabilirler.

    At Anadolu University, social and cultural activities are as important as education and scientific research. The University frequently holds scientific events such as conferences, seminars, panels, congresses and symposia, and cultural activities such as exhibitions, stage performances and concerts. In addition to smaller conference halls in each unit, Atatürk Culture and Arts Center, Congress Center and Cinema Anadolu on Yunusemre Campus house many activities throughout the year.

Services for Students with Special Needs or Disabilities

Engelli Öğrenciler Birimi (Handicapped Students Support Center), Engelliler Araştırma Enstitüsü (Research Institute for Individuals with Disabilities), Engelliler Entegre Yüksekokulu (School for the Handicapped), Üstün Yetenekliler Eğitimi Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi (ÜYEP) (Research Center for the Education of Gifted and Talented), Dil ve Konuşma Terapisi Merkezi (DİLKOM) (Center for Language and Speech Disorders), İşitme Engelli Çocuklar Eğitim, Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi (İÇEM) (Applied Research Center for the Education of Hearing Impaired Children), Eğitim Fakültesi Özel Eğitim Bölümü (Special Education Department of Faculty of Education) and Açıköğretim Fakültesi Engelli Öğrenciler Destek Birimi (Open Education Faculty Handicapped Students Support Center) functioning within Anadolu University offers services for students with special needs.        

 

Handicapped Students Support Center (Engelli Öğrenciler Birimi)

The unit that has supported students with disabilities since 2006 carries out the following duties in coordination with the other related departments:

  1. assess and identify the needs of students with special needs from the day they register for the program until they graduate,
  2. address the needs of disabled students at the university by anticipating obstacles they may face and developing solutions to overcome these difficulties,
  3. facilitate full participation of these students in the learning-teaching process by preparing specialized course materials, appropriate classroom settings, and individualized exam arrangements that are appropriate for the specific needs of these students, as well as ensuring full accessibility to all facilities and educational environments on campus,
  4. and develop plans of action concerning the university’s physical environment which may cause hindrances for disabled students and purchase equipment that will be necessary to implement those plans.

The unit carries out activities to raise awareness and sensitivity about the “disabilities” of students with special needs, as well as carrying out projects to make all the buildings and open areas accessible to students with special needs.

Research Center for the Education of Gifted and Talented (Üstün Yetenekliler Eğitimi Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi (ÜYEP)

Founded in 2014, Research Center for the Education of Gifted and Talented carries out studies in the following four main areas:

1) diagnosing gifted and talented students,

2) planning, developing and conducting special education programs for the gifted and talented,

3) carrying out trainings and counselling services for the parents of gifted and talented,

4) carrying out scientific research in areas of intelligence, gifted and talented, and creativity. 

 

In the research center, gifted and talented children, as well as young adults are diagnosed by conducting intelligence, creativity, and aptitude tests from early childhood to early adolescence. Students diagnosed as gifted or talented receive enriched and accelerated training programs in Fall, Spring, and Summer Semester, focusing on the development of advanced thinking skills such as analytical, practical and creative thinking in special academic and skills areas. Students who have completed the programs offered in the center carry on their studies in the most prestigious high schools and universities in Türkiye.

Research Institute for Individuals with Disabilities

The institute has been carrying out services for children with developmental disabilities, offering them effective education since 1994.  The services carried out by the Research Institute for Individuals with Disabilities are as follows:

carry out educational, behavioral and developmental assessment of children between the ages of 0-8 with developmental delays/disabilities or of those who are at risk.

offer individual and/or group training options to children with developmental delays/disabilities between the ages of 0-6

develop and/or adapt assessment/evaluation tools, training (behavioral and developmental intervention) programs/curriculum for  individuals with developmental delays/disabilities, 

for the families with children with developmental delays/disabilities, prepare package programs based on cultural issues and support families’ psychological well-being, working in collaboration with psychological counseling centers, special education and rehabilitation centers.

for the experts and teachers who work with children with developmental delays/disabilities, provide current and scientific informative books, brochures and deliver educational seminaries.

provide services such as teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels and directing graduate theses to other units of the Anadolu University such as Graduate Schools of Educational and Social Sciences.

School for the Handicapped

 School for the Handicapped was established in order to train individuals with disabilities in vocational programs at university level and to support them to become a productive member of the society. It started to offer courses in the academic year of 1993-1994. The programs offered are Graphic Arts and Ceramic Arts bachelor degree programs offered in the Department of Applied Fine Arts, associate degree program in Computer Operator Training offered in the Department of Computer Use, and associate degree program in Architectural Drafting offered in the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning. All three departments are equipped with the necessary technology to accommodate to the educational needs of the hearing impaired individuals.

Center for Language and Speech Disorders (DİLKOM)

DİLKOM, established in 1999, is a research center for language and speech disorders. The center offers services such as diagnosis or assessment of individuals with language and speech disorders. It also offers therapy and counseling. As a research center, it conducts basic and applied research in the field and publishes research articles. It also offers practice opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students and carries out services and activities in favor of the society.

Applied Research Center for the Education of Hearing Impaired Children (İÇEM)

İÇEM started its activities in 1979 and it is a research center where modern education programs of high quality are carried out through auditory-verbal method for children with hearing impairment. İÇEM, being the only place in Türkiye that offers academic education for hearing impaired children at the levels of pre-school, primary school, secondary school or high school, constitutes a model for the education of hearing impaired children with all the support and development programs it embodies. Besides, İÇEM also offers various other services related to the education of hearing impaired children, such as audio-logical assessment, family education programs, cochlear implant programs, and speech training programs.

Education Faculty Department of Special Education

Founded in 1983, Teacher Training Program in Special Education has been offering programs to its students in the Special Education Department of the Faculty of Education since 1989.  Our department provides undergraduate education in Teacher Education Program for Intellectual Disabilities and Teacher Education Program for Hearing Impairment. In addition, our department offers master’s programs in the areas of Education of Intellectual Disabilities, Education of Hearing Impaired, Gifted and Talented Education, Early Childhood Special Education and Education of Children with Developmental Disabilities (offered as evening classes or through distance education) as well as doctoral programs in the areas of Intellectual Disabilities, Hearing Impaired, and Gifted and Talented Education. At the Institute for Social Sciences, master’s program of Applied Behavior Analysis also provides education for students who want to improve themselves in this area.

Open Education Faculty Handicapped Students Support Center (AÖFEÖDB)

Founded in 2014, the center works in cooperation and coordination with other centers offering services for the handicapped. The center was founded with the objective of

1) varying services for the handicapped,

2) designing research for the handicapped and assessing satisfaction levels of the graduates,

3) designing and carrying out research / projects related to the usage of supplementary technologies to increase the quality of services offered for the handicapped.

The center focuses specifically on the needs of individuals with visual impairment studying in open education faculty and designing learning materials for them, and works in cooperation and coordination with other centers and units to carry out research and material design.
